Albania: A New Mediterranean Love
In the heart of the Mediterranean, on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Albania is fast becoming one of the world’s most interesting destinations. Still relatively unspoiled by globalization, tourists will notice an inspiring mixture of civilizations and cultures - making this European country truly unique. Nestled in between Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro, and across the Adriatic and Ionian Sea from Italy, Albania boasts blue and turquoise seas, beautiful beaches, snow peaked mountains, rivers, lakes, and forests as well as stunning nature. Albanians themselves are famous for their hospitality, and tourists are welcomed with heart-warming generosity. Known as the land of the eagles, Albania is one of Europe’s ancient countries that have been continuously inhabited for more than 10.000 years.
Religious harmony has been a characteristic of Albania for many centuries.
Living through Albanian history one encounters several interesting facts. Alexander the Great has roots here and Augustus Octavian’s has been educated in the famous Apollonia. “The land of Eagles” has eternally been on borders that have marked Empires and Époques, while it embodies cultures, legends and well known characters.
Famous Albanians include Gjergj Kastrioti (Skanderbeg) and Mother Teresa. Heaving lived in different periods and having done different works they are very close to each other through their messages of what Albania was and of what should be.
Butrinti is beyond doubt one of the most elegant cities of antiquity. We can even find here the foot prints of Eneas, the legendary Trojan prince that founded Rome.
The Albanian coast which is 427 km long encompasses two seas, the Adriatic and the Ionian. The Ionian coast has infinity of small bays offering total privacy. Within a few minutes one can leave the mountains and reach the sea, finding views of a rare beauty. Not surprisingly it is called the Mediterranean last pristine beach. Albania has a Mediterranean climate with dry and sunny weather and with about 300 sunny days per year. This clime together with natural beauty and geographic variety make Albania an attractive country for various types of tourists. Mountains more than 2000 m high located in the north region of the country and the mountains along the coast as well fall steeply into the valleys and seas providing spectacular views. The Mountains provide excellent opportunities for rafting, skiing and horse riding. It’s hard to find another country in the region with such conditional and broad spectrums of adventures.
